The Beauty of DataBases and Library Loans

Posted on Monday 19 December 2005

For any one who may have been concerned that people’s reading habits could lead to anarchy and insecurity, fear not!

It seems the government has well and truly got it covered.

For those who didn’t know, in the US every time you borrow book from the library, it goes on a database that is available to the government to check up on. And check up they do.

A Massachussetts college student was visited by the Feds after requesting an inter-library loan of Mao’s Little Red Book.

Nobody has actually bothered explaining how reading the Little Red Book is a threat to national security nor even which books trip the alarm, but it seems that the Little Red Book in combination with a personal history of travel outside the US is enough to peak the interest of the men in black.
